Alison's life is perfect. Married to Eric, a handsome, wealthy man, she teaches 5th grade - just for fun - and is the envy of all her friends.
Beneath the surface, Eric is an abusive monster. Able to take no more, Alison flees her "perfect life" with only her clothes, her car and two cats. After a mad dash across the country, she lands in Grabill, a backwoods Ohio town with seemingly little to offer. But if anyone knows that appearances are deceiving, Alison does. So, she takes her chances on Grabill and, eventually, mechanic Tyler Coffey, embarking on a journey of a whole other kind.
Alison's Journey is the touching story of a woman who finds that, rather than
having run away, she has come home. Debut author Amey Tippett takes readers on a
sweetly emotional journey as Alison rediscovers herself and her ability to
trust, finding out what love really is.

February 19, 2006: Alison's marriage appears to be the envy of everyone she and her husband, Eric, know yet it is fraught with danger once the door closes to the outside world. Eric demanded a perfect life and his success allowed them to never want for anything. His need for control, however, explodes in the privacy of their home. Alison is a teacher and her time at school is the only time she has away from him. The mental and physical abuse he inflicts upon her compels her to abandon her old life in favor of a new one. She drives off with no particular location in mind and eventually ends up in Grabill, Ohio. The locals are friendly and no one locks their doors, both oddities to a woman from Los Angeles trying to escape from an abusive husband. She initially continues to live as she had in the big city but realizes that the phony veneers of LA have no place in a countryside town where everyone knows you. Alison responds to their warmth and down home manners and finds a man who treats her the way she should be treated. She learns a great deal about herself during her time in Grabill. What should have dragged her down and destroyed her only made her stronger and surer of herself. Amey S. Tippett takes her character and the reader to a place that invokes a sense of nostalgia. Grabill, with its picnics, friendly neighborhood shops and hard working people is a place that anyone would want to visit. She reminds people that it isn't the false sense of 'perfection' and material wealth that complete one's life, but the honest individuals and simple pleasures that accentuate it.
