October 29, 2009: I loved this book. Mende Nazer has been added to my hero's list. She really is an inspirational woman who has been through alot. I wish her all the best. This book has really helped me to become a better person by understanding that the world is not perfect and there is still alot of people suffering around the world. Mende Nazer had alot of patience and she never gave up hope which I thinked helped her to overcome her struggles against slavery.

March 14, 2009: I was meandering through the biography section looking for my next book. Then, my husband handed me this one, knowing before I ever read the cover we would be walking out of the store with it.
One of the things a really enjoyed about this book was the glimpse into the life and culture of Mende's family. In fact, it is these glimpses that carried her through the many years of slavery and unjust treatment. As I read about how Mende finally escaped her captors I wanted to scream out cheering. This book is worth the time and money required to read it.
