      Synopsis

Finding Angela Shelton is a memoir of courage, survival and faith. It is the journey of a young woman who discovers herself in the stories of other women who share her same name and coincidentally share experiences of violence and abuse that plagued her own childhood. Through her physical journey across the country she is thrust into her own emotional journey. She embraces each woman she meets, is strengthened by their connections, confronts the father that molested her, and ultimately finds faith, divine purpose, and wholeness.

      Biography

Angela Shelton is an award-winning actress and filmmaker. She made her directorial debut with her documentary Searching for Angela Shelton in which she drove around the country meeting other women named Angela Shelton. She found that 70 percent had been victims of sexual assault or domestic violence. This surprising journey led Angela to confront her own abusive past. The multi-award winning documentary has started a grassroots movement of survivors and humanitarian organizations around the world to expose the extent of abuse suffered by American women. Angela received a certificate of appreciation from the United States Justice Department for her work and dedication on behalf of America's crime victims. She was also presented the Voice of Courage award from Darkness to Light, an organization with the goal of ending childhood sexual abuse. And she received the Award for Distinguished Service and Excellence in Film Media from The Leadership Council for Child Abuse and Interpersonal Violence and the Family Violence and Sexual Assault Institute in 2005. Angela has appeared on Oprah and 48 Hours Investigates. An exclusive version of her documentary, Searching for Angela Shelton aired on Lifetime TV in April 2006. In addition, Angela stars as the Safe Side Super Chick superhero who teaches children how to be safe in the Safe Side video series created by Baby Einstein creator Julie Clark and America's Most Wanted creator, John Walsh. She won a regional Emmy for her performance in this video series in 2005.

November 17, 2008: Angela Shelton took on what she thought would be an interesting way to document the thoughts and feelings of women in America. What better way to keep it fun than too search out her namesakes? What Angela did not expect to find were the number of women raped, molested, beaten, and abused. Before you decide to pass on this as another one of those depressing books, you would be surpised at the book's wittiness and humor. It does not make light of the serious topic it settles upon as the common bond these namesakes share. Instead it carries the reader through gently to the end as Angela discovers the similarities she shares with these other Angela Sheltons. In the end Angela faces her deepest fear, that of facing her abuser, and comes out much stronger as a result.
