      Synopsis

The illuminating national bestseller: "Vertiginously exciting...vibrantly imagined....[Krauss is] a prodigious talent."-Janet Maslin, New York Times

The Washington Post - Ron Charles

Even in moments of startling peculiarity, [Krauss] touches the most common elements of the heart. For Leo, obsessed with his death but struggling to be noticed, and for Alma, ready to grow up but arrested by her mother's grief, the persistence of love drives them to an astonishing connection. In the final pages, the fractured stories of The History of Love fall together like a desperate embrace.

November 11, 2009: My daughter gave me two novels to read while on vacation in Seattle. I chose "The History of Love" over "The Time Traveler's Wife" and blessed my luck -- a coin toss, since I read mostly non-fiction. Nicole Krauss' mesmerizing story and memorable characters leave a lasting imprint on the heart. Climbing inside Leo Gorsky's head and following his journey to the surprise ending is an illumination of what is real in most lives: a need for purpose, a longing for connection, and an affirmation of the importance of love. A story about a story that changed lives, "The History of Love" completes the circle and changes the reader with its lessons about the depths of lonliness and healing power of love.

November 03, 2009: This is by far one of my favorite novels. I could not put the novel down and still remember quotes from it a year later.
