      Synopsis

Over his 30-plus-year acting career, Roy Scheider has redefined America's idea of a leading man, thanks to his talent for playing an urban everyman that audiences relate to and root for, despite flaws and failures. He rose to fame in the early 1970s in the Oscar-winning films Klute and The French Connection (his first Oscar nomination). Roy garnered more critical acclaim in Jaws and Marathon Man, as well as a second Oscar nomination for All That Jazz. Scheider's life and career are chronicled in this work. Beginning with his childhood in New Jersey, it traces his development from a community theater actor to a world-renowned movie star, and covers his more recent work in the Golden Globe-winning RKO 281 and the Shakespearean drama King of Texas. Includes a complete filmography and index."

August 05, 2002: Without stooping to levels of tabloid tactics, this book tells all about a current icon of the Performing Arts Industries. All the details of his personal and professional life are logically presented. While Mr. Scheider?s numerous character portrayals, or perhaps his sex appeal, may be the spark of interest to many of his fans, one needs only to review the facts of his life as chronicled by Mrs. Kachmar to realize that the forceful presence on screen or stage is the direct result of Mr. Scheider?s focus; self-determination; realism; hard work, and capacity for love of family and life. Mrs. Kachmar?s portrayal of Roy Scheider as a consummate professional, and a community minded individual is a stunning relief from shock journalism. Certainly, Mr. Scheider is a role model to whom anyone who has aspirations can look to. CONGRATULATIONS to DIANE KACHMAR for a book that was extremely well researched; and CONTINUED THANKS to Mr. SCHEIDER for undaunted achievements in the Performing Arts.
