October 16, 2005: I've been mushroom hunting for years and this was one of 'my' first books on mushrooms since borrowing my parents as a kid. This is an in-depth book to use as an identifying tool... use with 'All that the Rain Promises and More' for quick identifying! Great books, happy hunting!

June 21, 2005: Arora has a wonderfully breezy writing style that makes this book very accessible. Most mushroom books help you identify individual species, but offer no help for unlisted species. Arora puts a lot of emphasis on so called 'higher taxa', or groups of species. Even if all you care about is eating mushrooms, it is useful to know that the specimen you have is an Agaricus and not an Amanita. Even though Arora covers the Western US and not the Eastern US where I live, this is the reference I use more than any other.
