Beginning with the earliest of agricultural societies during the neolithic era, this book takes an expansive look at world history, explaining the author's ideas about the decline of the Roman Empire, feudalism, slavery, the rise of the West and the patterns of colonization, and the failure of those former capitalist colonies to develop as quickly. Crotty, who served as a consultant in several Third World countries with the UK International Development Office and has written several books about agriculture and society, examines the events in terms of agriculture and economics, developing a personal theory of human civilization.
