      The essays reprinted in this two-volume collection fall into two broad categories. The 21 papers in the first group (contained in v.1) identify classic perspectives on international institutions and address issues that have formed the mainstream of regime analysis over the last 20 years. These issues center on the demand for institutions, the nature of regimes or governance systems, and the supply of international regimes. The second group of 19 papers (comprising v.2) deal with issues now coming into sharper focus. These concern matters of implementation, compliance, and effectiveness as well as the links between specific institutions and international society more generally. The articles were originally published as chapters in monographs or in such periodicals as International Organization, International Affairs, World Politics, and American Political Science Review.
