A classic cookbook that's sold more than one and a half million copies, The Good Housekeeping Illustrated Cookbook provides delicious recipes plus a wealth of information for today's cook. Fast and easy menus for all occasions, time-saving shopping and preparation tips, and nutrition information are just a few of the "added extras" included.
Exciting four-color photographs and more than 5,000 illustrations take you step by step through every phase of the cooking experience, demonstrating such techniques as measuring, dicing, julienning, grating, beating, and folding. More than 1,400 recipes -- from appetizers and soups to eggs and pasta, from meat and poultry to sandwiches and breads, from sauces and candy to desserts and beverages -- have been triple-tested by Good Housekeeping's famous test kitchens for infallibility, ease, good taste, and value.
Good Housekeeping recipes are always perfectly clear, taking the guesswork out of the kitchen. Instructions give at least two ways to determine the doneness of every dish, explain in detail all crucial techniques, eliminate unnecessary steps, and supply overall preparation times for every recipe.

November 15, 2009: I bought this cookbook when it originally came out in 1991 and absolutley love it. Its such a good book that when my wife and I divorced, she took the cookbook. It was the first one I HAD too add to my new collection. This book is awesome if you love to cook, is easy to use, and is a perfect starter book if you have a daughter or son thats going out on their own and just getting started.
