This unpretentious paper-over-boards presentation highlights selected artifacts in the Girard Wing of Santa Fe's Museum of International Folk Art. Textile designer Alexander Girard (1907-93) and his wife, Susan, donated their 106,000-piece collection, truly global in scope, in 1978. After a short essay eulogizing Girard, art from over 100 countries is illustrated in 100 color plates. Unfortunately, the accompanying commentary is sporadic and uncritical, consisting of one- or two-page explanations of Japanese, Indian, Western European, African, and Mexican portions of the Girard Collection. This picture book offers the same boilerplate as Robin Gavin's Traditional Arts of Spanish New Mexico (Museum of New Mexico Pr., 1994) to highlight the museum's individual collections.
