The revised and expanded edition of this very popular introduction to social gerontology contains eight new chapters abd a substantially rewritten introductory essay by the editor. Many of the added chapters appeared first in the special issue of Society on "The Politics of Aging." The new introduction reflects the most recent data abd developments in the field of aging. Other major sections deal with "Aging Through Time and Space," "Transition to Old Age," "Varieties of the Aging Experience," and "The Uses of Social Gerontology."
