Test your knowledge of history. In this book you will find 12 exciting scenes from cultures as diverse as Aztec to Zulu, & places as distant as Australia to the Arctic for example, daily life in ancient Egypt 4,000 years ago, an Aztec city on market day, a Christmas celebration in Norman England, & an aboriginal kangaroo hunt. Each picture has 10 things that are wrong can you spot them? You may find an Inca warrior reading a newspaper or a zebra hiding among a group of horses in a Sioux Indian encampment. If you get stuck, just turn to the back of the book & all the answers will be revealed.
Twelve plates illustrate scenes from great civilizations of the past, from a Zulu wedding to Egyptians farming by the Nile. Each plate contains ten deliberate errors or anachronisms to test the reader.
(Gr 6-12) -- Twelve lovely color plates show scenes from past civilizations; ten deliberate errors or anachronisms appear in the wealth of visual detail. Included are scenes from ancient Egypt, an Australian aboriginal hunt, a Zulu wedding, a Sioux encampment, a Norman Christmas, a Viking funeral. The mistakes in a scene by the Nile, for example, are a tape measure, a book, an oak tree, a tractor, a fishing pole, a thermos, and a water hose. Most will be obvious to students, although a few items are either so small or poorly drawn as to be unidentifiable. In general, the illustrations are well executed, and Alles does a good job of including the correct parallels for the misplaced objects. Notes identify each error and describe the correct item. Of limited use in an educational setting, this volume will appeal to browsers -- but probably only once. -- Rosie Peasley, Empire Union School District, Modesto, CA
