    Synopsis

    “Dazzling.”—Publishers Weekly

Ben Hartman is vacationing in Zurich, Switzerland when he chances upon his old friend Jimmy Cavanaugh—a madman who’s armed and programmed to assassinate. In a matter of minutes, six innocent bystanders are dead. So is Cavanaugh. But when his body vanishes, and his weapon mysteriously appears in Hartman’s luggage, Hartman is plunged into an unfathomable nightmare…

    “Vintage Ludlum.”—Houston Chronicle

Meanwhile, Anna Navarro, field agent for the Department of Justice, has been asked to investigate the sudden, random deaths of eleven men throughout the world. The only thing that connects them? A secret file, over a half-century old, that’s linked to the CIA—and is marked with the same puzzling codename: Sigma.

“Ludlum still dominates the field in adventure-drenched thrillers.”—Chicago Tribune

As Anna follows the connecting thread—and Hartman finds himself on the run—she ends up in the shadows of a relentless killer who is one step ahead of her…victim by victim. Now, she and Hartman together must uncover the diabolical secrets long held behind Sigma. It will threaten everything they think they know about themselves—and confirm their very worst fears...

    Book Magazine

Financier Ben Hartman is waiting for his car in front of a ritzy Swiss hotel when he spies an old chum from his school days. Minutes later, Ben is sprinting through the streets, and his old "friend" is in hot pursuit, gunning down innocent passersby as he tries to take Ben out. So begins this brick of international intrigue from the late Robert Ludlum. In the grand tradition of 1970s airport bookstore bestsellers, the action jumps from continent to continent, with sinister conspirators spending preposterous amounts of time and energy trying to kill Ben and the shapely U.S. government agent who takes his side. It's one of those books in which the hero is just about to get an explanation for what's happening when the person he's talking to is silenced by an assassin's bullet. The plot ultimately involves an ancient castle, medical experiments and the type of villain usually found in James Bond books. Reading this leaden tome isn't made more fun by the hopelessly hokey dialogue and the permeating sense of déjà vu.

    Biography

When he died in March 2001, Robert Ludlum had become not only a veteran suspense author, but a reliable bestseller franchise. His plots involving high-level corruption and global conspiracy are like entering labyrinths; and readers keep coming back to get lost.

June 03, 2005: The beginning of he novel really got me interested, in the beginning it looked like this book would be promising like other Ludlum novels, but the end was very disappointing i felt as if it was like an oldies James Bond wannabe.
