      Synopsis

For years, Magiere and Leesil have sought a long-forgotten artifact, even though its purpose has been shrouded in mystery. All Magiere knows is that she must keep the orb from falling into the hands of a murdering Noble Dead, her half-brother Welstiel. And now, dreams of a castle locked in ice lead her south, on a journey that has become nothing less than an obsession.

Accompanying Magiere and Leesil are the sage Wynn, their canine protector Chap, and two elven assassins-turned-guardians who must fight their distrust of this sister of the dead. For forces more powerful than they are rallying around Magiere, arming her for the conflict to come. Because finding the orb may be just the beginning of the challenges that await her...

September 28, 2009: I really enjoyed each on of their books. After reading this last one I am hoping they will do another book relating to this same series.

I Also Recommend: Dhampir, The Thief of Lives, Sister of the Dead, Traitor to the Blood, Rebel Fay.

One of the better books in this seriesby catseye

June 29, 2009: I liked this one better than Sister of the Dead and Traitor to the Blood, both of which I thought were too slow with too little plot. Things definitely happen in this final (I think it's final) book in the Dhampir series. In fact, I found the plot just a tad too busy but that definitely better than when the plot's too thin. Also, I thought this book was somewhat too long but still worth the read. I'm looking forward to In Shade and Shadow, the beginning of the second series. I hope Wynn and Chap are in it!

My biggest complaint about the Dhampier series is the lack of character development. Also, I'd have liked a bit more romance between Leesil and Magiere. They're soulmates but they spend a lot more time kicking butt than canoodling. Of course, if all I wanted was romance, I'd pick up a Barbara Cartland or Victoria Holt! But still, with everything these two go thru, they could have used a little more tenderness and togetherness as a couple.
