First in a new back-to- back series from the New York Times bestselling author
Hailed as "a star in any genre,"(New York Times bestselling author J. R. Ward)Christina Dodd delivers an exciting new paranormal romance that introduces The Seven, a secret society created to combat evil in all its deadly forms...
Dodd (Into the Flame) kicks off a new paranormal romantic suspense series with this gripping story. Jacqueline Vargha desperately denies the gift that rates her a place among the Chosen Ones, a group of seven extrasensoried young people who will battle the devil’s minions, the Others. Under the influence of her adoptive mother, powerful psychic and tabloid queen Zusane, Jacqueline joins the other six Chosen just before an explosion kills their would-be mentors. Alone but for Caleb, Zusane’s bodyguard and Jacqueline’s former lover, and two elderly, ungifted assistants, the new Chosen seek out the saboteur. Caleb and Jacqueline’s on-again-off-again romance is a little thin, but the taut, suspenseful plot, intriguing characters and a smooth, natural style show that Dodd has earned her place on the bestseller list. January 04, 2010: There is no plot to begin with. The story does not have substance. It is occasionally funny but in only a few places. The romance was too rushed in only 6 days. Don't waste your time or money. By far the Black Dagger Brotherhood series is the best paranormal series ever. It is not worth passing an afternoon with. So boring, predictablel, and daunting.
I Also Recommend: Pleasure Unbound (Demonica Series #1), Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood Series #1), Lover Eternal (Black Dagger Brotherhood Series #2), Lover Awakened (Black Dagger Brotherhood Series #3), When Darkness Comes.

October 06, 2009: As a fan of Christina Dodd, I was very disappointed in this book. Her paranormal series seem to be degrading further and further. This book stems off of her Darkness Chosen trilogy and takes the "deal with the Devil" one step further to a blood feud between good and evil. The premise was a little dark for my taste, but I decided to wait it out anyway. Unfortunately, my effort was for naught. Dodd flitted from sex scene to sex scene filling the limited space in-between meaningless violence. I still don't know what the point was! At the very least, this book should be re-categorized from Paranormal Romance to Bloody Erotica. Now if that is what you're looking for, this book fits the bill!
