December 11, 2009: Lily Carlyle died while trying to exact revenge against her teenage sister's stalker and rapist. Unfortunately for Lily, regardless of how noble her cause for retribution, her intent does not dismiss the fact that she had murder in her heart. While Lily was alive, she was a small time hustler and thief. She did whatever it took to put food on the table for her family. Luckily for Lily, shortly after her death, she was given an opportunity for redemption against her past sins. Her choice, become a demon hunter and fight for the side of good or have a nice trip back to your descent into hell. Nothing is as it seems in this story. I was so intrigue by the thought of demons having the capability of repelling their true nature and gravitating towards light, and in reverse, humans who are not naturally evil (well most of us), rebelling against their nature towards good and being easily led astray by evil. The twists and turns in this book kept my interest thoroughly peaked. There were plenty of fierce action scenes and shocking revelations. By the end of the book I was so completely blown away, I couldn't put it down. I've never read anything from this author before and while I was aware of the context of the story before I read it, I still didn't particularly care for this books affirmation of the Christianity version of god. I don't usually read books that affirm any one particular religion; however, regardless of the religious aspect of this book I enjoyed it immensely. I highly recommend this book to fellow dark urban fantasy readers and look forward to the next book Torn.
I Also Recommend: Dark Time, Night Life (Nocturne City Series #1), Servant, Ravenous, Ravenous.
