October 26, 2001: Rae Borden was once Ginny?s friend and a part of her family until a terrible mistake sent her running away in shame. Rae became a police officer in Detroit and hoped to reconcile with Ginny one day but she was too late. Instead She returned to Washington D.C. to attend Ginny?s funeral. On that same day, Ginny?s father supposedly committed suicide.
Rae?s police instincts go on red alert when she sees Kazmin Zarlos and Nick Flynn secretly leave the funeral. She is convinced they have something to do with Ginny and her father?s deaths. A special organization knows of Rae?s concern and uses that to enlist her to obtain the dirt on Zarlos and his partner Anna Murray. She uses Nick to get her into the organization and unexpectedly falls in love with him. He reciprocates her feelings. Neither of them realizes they might die while completing the investigation because the people they need to bring down are more and less than human.
MIDNIGHT MASQUERADE is one of the best vampire books this reviewer has ever read. The hero is to die for and the exciting story line is a one sitting read. She is on a par with Anne ice and readers know that Nancy Gideon subtly adds meat to the rice so that the paranormal audience fully believes in the existence of the vampires.
