    Synopsis

Dirk & Steele have a creed: Protect the innocent in secrecy. No member of the Agency is "normal." Blue Perrineau is no different. And now, when it is clear that darker shadows exist in the world -- people who followed no rule under heaven -- every secret is a liability. Blue wtll soon see.

They come from all over the world to observe Iris’s lithe, catlike body and her affinity for wild creatures. All eyes are upon her, seeking, judging -- coveting. But one gaze is that of a savior, a man of electricity and mystery -- a mystery as deep and convoluted as her own. And together, they might yet see the dawn.

    Publishers Weekly

Once again, Liu has managed a brilliant blend of fantasy, action and romance in her latest Dirk & Steele novel, which follows the members of a paranormal detective agency. When electrokinetically gifted agency detective Blue Perrineau is blackmailed by his father, dying billionaire Felix Perrineau, he's forced to track down Felix's other son, Daniel-the brother Blue never knew he had. His search for Daniel takes him to a small Las Vegas circus that features Iris McGillis, a slinky shape-shifter with a lion act and a global fan base. After Blue saves Iris from an ecoterrorist sniper, they form an instant attachment, but he runs into trouble when he finds Daniel and, later, a dangerous flesh peddler-both of whom also have plans for the hypnotically sexy Iris. Liu brings her skewed universe to life with skill and conviction, grounding the comic-book plot with fully realized personalities and the workaday details of circus life. Though a bit drawn out, this entry will undoubtedly please fans of the series and should provide a fresh thrill for anyone in the market for an extraordinary romance. (Dec.) April 03, 2007: I enjoyed the first three books in this series, but this one was too much. The descriptions and thoughts went on an on. The internal thoughts....Good grief. I had the idea had 'hello.' There was a lot of useless dialogue that really slowed the book down. The story was too much. One thing after another. Just when I thought it was finally going to end, something else happened. This is more a paranormal fiction, not a romance.

November 25, 2006: When his father, who faked his own death, emerges from the 'grave' to blackmail his family, Blue Perrineau finds that he must track down his estranged half-brother to help get out of the situation created. His quest leads to Vegas where he finds not only Daniel, but a beautiful animal trainer, who has a lot in common with her subjects. Iris is a shape-shifter, and the target of an evil Consortium made up of sick men who have vile purposes in mind for those with special gifts. That means Blue and Daniel are not safe, nor are Blue's friends. This may be Dirk and Steele's hairiest, no pun intended, case yet. *** This is a complex story, much like the X files without the frequent gross out factor, or Alias with more of a paranormal twist. Fans of the Dirk and Steele books won't want to miss it. ***
