PHP5, Apache and MySQL are some of the most popular open-source technologies for active web servers. In this comprehensive guide, the authors assume readers have very limited experience with the concepts, and so start with configuring the installation of all three programs. They then step through using the programs, including creating PHP pages with PHP5 and using PHP5 with MySQL, suing tables to display data, letting the user work with data, and letting the user edit the database. They show how to build databases, send email, personalize, and create an online store. Rather than working from theory to practice, the authors start with a project such as a comic book or movie and describe features that apply. They include a number of quick references in the appendix. Annotation ©2005 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR

May 10, 2006: There are way too many errors in the code examples of this book. Check the book's website forums for proof. It is is a good book to read, but the errors are hard to debug when its their examples that are wrong.

April 09, 2006: I'm a self-taught programmer in PHP and consider myself a mildly advanced in it. A lot of it I already knew, but it covered in detail and I learned a lot about what I had already known. It includes a lits of PHP functions, a quick reference for MySQL, and goes through step by step to installing a functional developmental environment.
