    Synopsis

Beginning with a short story appearing in The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction in 1978, the publication of Stephen King's epic work of fantasy-what he considers to be a single long novel and his magnum opus-has spanned a quarter of a century.

Set in a world of extraordinary circumstances, filled with stunning visual imagery and unforgettable characters, The Dark Tower series is King's most visionary feat of storytelling, a magical mix of science fiction, fantasy, and horror that may well be his crowning achievement. In November 2003, the fifth installment, Wolves of the Calla, will be published under the imprint of Donald M. Grant, with distribution and major promotion provided by Scribner. Song of Susannah, Book VI, and The Dark Tower, Book VII, will follow under the same arrangement in 2004. With these last three volumes finally on the horizon, readers-countless King readers who have yet to delve into The Dark Tower and a multitude of new and old fantasy fans-can now look forward to reading the series straight through to its stunning conclusion. Viking's elegant reissue of the first four books ensures that for the first time The Dark Tower will be widely available in hardcover editions for this eager readership.

October 11, 2009: The Wastelands is the third book in the seven part Dark Tower series. The book takes place in a couple of places like, New York, and the city of Lud. It is about a band of travelers, or a Ka- Tet trying to reach the Dark Tower. THere are four people in the group. Two from New York named Jake and Eddie. Roland from Giled, who is also the main character of the book. And Susanna.

The band of travelers will run into a few problems along the way. A man with a yellow scarf name Gasher. And a train named Blaine who wants to meet some interesting people, and hear riddles, but wont take Roland's Ka-Tet across the WasteLands.

This book is defineitly a fantasy book. ANd overall I would give it two enthusiastic thumbs up. The reason I like the book is because Stepehn King does a good job of foreshadowing and introducing characters. Also, he does a great job of keeping interested for all 500 pages.

August 23, 2009: Dark Tower is so much more than I expected and it spans a writers life time. Stephen King wrote the first book when he was 19! I found the first book to be the best but overall the series is excellent and gives the reader a lot to think about. More than just a thrilling scifi ride, it has a lot to do with humanity and politics.
