    Synopsis

Raheiran Special Forces captain Gillaine Davré has just woken up in some unknown space way station, wondering where the last three hundred years have gone. The last thing she remembers is her ship being attacked. Now it seems that while she was time-traveling, she was ordained a goddess…. Gillaine’s only hope of survival rests with dangerously seductive Admiral Mack Makarian, who suspects her of being a smuggler—or worse. But he can’t begin to imagine the full extent of it. For Gillaine is now Lady Kiasidira, holy icon to countless believers, including Mack—a man who inspires feelings in her that are far from saintly…feelings she knows are mutual. But when their flirtation is interrupted by a treacherous enemy from the past, Gillaine’s secret—and secret desires—could destroy them both….

A Well-Crafted Universe, But ...by grisaille

September 23, 2009: there are also quite a few plot elements which are never fully addressed (why doesn't Gillaine call home? what happens to the characters who disappear before the end of thebook? and so on). The characters were a lot of fun, but Sinclair drops the reader a little *too* abruptly in media res. A prologue would have helped tremendously. The religious elements were great, as they are so rare in science fiction, and added a lot to this fictional universe.

I Also Recommend: Close Encounters, No Words Alone, Games of Command, Galaxion Vol. 1.

May 21, 2007: I'm not a fantasy reader, as it just doesn't do much for me. However, An Accidental Goddess put just the right combination of science an magic together, leaving behind the middle ages clones of culture. This was a very likable read with very likable characters. The parrots were great. I'm off to try some more of this author's books.
