    Synopsis

New York Times bestselling author Jane Feather has won legions of fans and critical accolades for her unique blend of sizzling seduction, dangerous intrigue, and passionate adventure.

    Publishers Weekly

Set during a period of political unrest and persecution, the final entry in Feather's 16th-century Kiss trilogy (following To Kiss a Spy) will hook readers at the outset, but it may not hold their attention throughout. When Lady Philippa Nielson meets Lionel Ashton, a close confidant of Queen Mary and King Philip II, she has the eerie sense that she's met the mysterious English lord before. Lionel denies the connection, but the more time she spends with him, the more convinced she becomes. As Pippa's friendship with Lionel grows, her relationship with her husband, Stuart, deteriorates. She suspects he's having an affair, but it isn't until she learns she's pregnant that she discovers the truth: both she and Stuart are pawns in a plot to secure Queen Mary's place on the throne, and Lionel, whom Pippa has come to trust and even love, may be one of the Queen's puppeteers. Feather skillfully draws out the intrigue and immerses readers in the time period with her descriptions of court costumes and customs. However, her tendency to overstuff the novel with details undermines the suspense. Though the pace plods at times and the secondary romance between Pippa's brother and Lionel's Spanish ward lacks depth, Feather's firm grasp of history and compelling plot will push readers past the slow spots. (Feb. 11) Forecast: Readers accustomed to shelling out twenty dollars or more for Feather's hardcovers will welcome this moderately priced paperback original. August 22, 2009: I read many reviews about this book before reading it. Most every review I read was negative. I had read the previous two in the trilogy and wanted to read this one. So with much hesitation I did. It was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I agree the theme was like nothing I have ever read. I was glad that she did the scene w/King Phillip as she did and did not dwell on it. You do begin to feel for the hero, you can tell he loves Pippa and that it was hard for him to do what he did. Then you learn the reason and it helps understand him more.

Not as good as the first two mainly because of theme, but if you should complete the trilogy.

I Also Recommend: A Dangerous Love (Swanlea Spinster Series #1), A Notorious Love (Swanlea Spinster Series #2), Sleepless in Scotland, The Laird Who Loved Me.

March 17, 2008: Wow. I have read thousands of romances over the past 15 plus years, but this makes my top 5 worst romances of all time. I confess I only read the first chapter. But what a first chapter it was! Imagine! A hero who literally turns a blind eye while his wife is raped while she's drugged! If that doesn't beat all. I'm sorry, but I am NOT going to waste my valuable time reading about how a woman can possibly forgive such a spineless, despicable, moral degenerate. I read other reviews and was appalled that, yes, she does forgive him and they live 'happily every after'. Amazing. I am happy that I spent a mere fifty cents on this book, and I will most assuredly not be reading any books by this author, no matter how highly praised.
