April 26, 2003: I was really let down with her second book, Buttercup Baby, and Karen Fox has let me down again. I fell in love with Nic in her first book, Prince of Charming, and now she made him a selfish piece of fluff. If you read the first book, you know that Nic had married a mortal (he's an immortal faerie) named Anna. Well, he decided that it would be better if she were made immortal, too. Lo and behold, he finds out that she has to die to gain that immortality. So twenty-five years later, he discovers that she has been reincarnated, but there's a problem: while this 'new' Anna, now named Dianna Fielding, looks exactly like his former wife, it's her sister, Stacy, that he falls for. It's pretty maddening that he falls in love and has a fling with Stacy all the while planning to take Dianna with him back to the faerie realm. What happened to my sweet, loving Nic? And don't get me started on the Fielding sisters! Hopefully, just hopefully, Karen' next book involving Ariel and Rand's daughter (Buttercup Baby) and Robin and Kate's son (Prince of Charming) will prove a lovely story.

January 15, 2003: Nic Stone learns the hard way that you must be careful what you wish for, lest you get it. One of the Faery, he has fallen in love with a mortal, and is determined to love Anna for all time. However, when he asks the jealous queen, Titania to grant his love eternal life, he is not aware that the price is her life. She must die and be reborn, and her new incarnation will have no recollection of Nic. For them to be together forever, Nic must find Anna and win her heart all over again. If he fails, he will lose her for all time, and be Titania's slave. When at last Nic believes he has found Anna (Diana), he is in a quandry. It is Diana's sister, Stacy, who is slowly winning his heart. Yet, despite this, he is determined to best the queen, and to have the woman he believes is his lost soul mate. Though it hurts, Stacy is equally determined to help, once she knows the truth. That does not change the love they feel for one another though. Is an eternity with one love worth the loss of a truer one? ***** With a unique twist on the reincarnation theme, Ms. Fox recreates the legend of Tam Lin, a mortal woman battling the queen of the Fair Folk for her lover's heart. You will truly feel both the lightness of the general story as well as the tragic circumstances that seem to be conspiring against the lovers' happiness. *****
