    Synopsis

When a young psychic acquires a riddle box in Beijing, she learns she can free the shapeshifter imprisoned inside, and that he is the beginning of an adventure--and a love--of a lifetime.

    Publishers Weekly

At the start of Liu's first-rate debut, psychically sensitive tourist Dela Reese browses for treasures at Beijing's Dirt Market, where an old woman sells her a riddle box for only one yuan. Surprisingly, when Dela opens the box back in her hotel room, a gorgeous seven-foot-tall warrior appears, bearing 2,000-year-old weapons. The warrior, Hari, has been cursed for two millennia to serve as a slave-bereft of his power to shape-shift into a tiger-to anyone who opens the box. Assassins follow Delilah and Hari from Beijing back home to the U.S., where Dela and Hari soon find themselves in the midst of a war between Chinese crime syndicates. The reappearance of Hari's age-old nemesis, the Magi, who has been searching for Hari since he was imprisoned in the box, jacks up the suspense. The romance between Delilah and Hari tantalizingly builds until it culminates in a sensual love scene. Repetitive references to Hari's great stature fortunately don't detract from the appeal of this striking paranormal romance. Agent, Lucienne Diver. (Mar.) Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.

Marjorie M. Liu's writing is addictiveby TWUpshaw

September 23, 2009: Tiger Eye was the first of Ms. Liu's stories that I read. I have become addicted to her paranormal characters and the intriguing storylines she employs. The stories are part mystery, love story, and travelogue. I also enjoy the fact that characters may make appearances in other of her novels, if only in cameo appearances. Liu's heroines (primarily) and heros are flawed, struggling not only with the messiness that is life, but also with their individual paranormal "gift."

While it is redundant to say, if you enjoy the early Amanda Blake stories by Laurell Hamilton and the quirkiness of Charlaine Harris' characters, Liu should become one of your go-to authors when you need a great read.

WHOA! Read this book if you like Paranormal Romance stories!by Anonymous

December 29, 2008: My Beloved Husband bought this book for me for Christmas and I ate it up in one day! LOVED IT! Can't wait to get my paws on the rest of the series. I loved the prose and I loved the fact that the narrator switched from Hari's perspective to Dela's. The reader gets a great insight as to how they both feel and what's really going on in their hearts. There were times when Dela came close to whiny - but she was stopped by herself or Hari (more often Hari), which really saved Dela from becoming irratating. Goodness knows Katie MacAlister (as much as I love her!) can let her characters get whiny. The pace of the book is fast, there is a lot of story and action to sink your teeth in to, and the characters are so darn likeable. All of Dela's friends from Dirk and Steele are fleshed out nicely and I do hope they are recurring characters. Ms. Lui obviously did her research as well as the locations were very believable. My hubby spent a LOT of time traveling through China on business and told me much about it. Ms. Lui's prose brought me right back to his stories of how the smog and fierce desert winds off the Gobi affected the cities.

I Also Recommend: The Iron Hunt (Hunter Kiss Series #1), Blow Me Down, Playing with Fire (Silver Dragons Series #1), You Slay Me (Aisling Grey, Guardian Series #1), Kushiel's Dart (Kushiel's Legacy Series #1).
