      Synopsis

The stranger silently summons her from across the continents, across the seas. He whispers of eternal torment, of endless hunger...of dark, dangerous desires. And somehow American surgeon Shea O'Halloran can feel his anguish, sense his haunting aloneness, and she aches to heal him, to heal herself. Drawn to the far Carpathian mountains, Shea finds a ravaged, raging man, a being like no other. And her soul trembles. For in his burning eyes, his icy heart, she recognizes the beloved stranger who's already become part of her. This imperious Carpathian male compels Shea to his side. But is she to be his healer...or his prey? His victim...or his mate? Is he luring her into madness...or will his dark desire make her whole?

January 24, 2010: Christine Feehan has created a world with her Carpathians that pulls you in more deeply with every book. You genuinely care about her characters and want to know what happens to them. Yes, some parts may be repetitive regarding the lifemates but that's part of the seduction.

December 19, 2009: I began reading these books after a recommendation from a friend. After having read the Sookie novels and twilight, the Carpathian/Dark Series provided an "old school" vampire story. It was very remniscent of scenery in Stoker's Dracula. I found the first book dark prince enjoyable, but this book was VERY, VERY enjoyable. The story of Jacques is one I could read over and over again. You begin the book struggling to understand him, almost loathing him. But in the end you find yourself rooting for him. This book starts off fast and doesn't skip a beat. Love it! Love it! Love it!

I Also Recommend: New Moon, Dark Prince (Dark Series #1), Dark Gold (Dark Series #3), Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy Series #1).
