(Mass Market Paperback)
Continuing this successful series of vampire romances, Madeline Baker writes as Amanda Ashley. In all his 400 years, Rayven had never met a woman like Rhianna. Her father had sold her to Rayven to put food on the table. Now, although Rhianna senses danger beneath his soft-spoken manner, although Rayven himself warns her away, Rhianna is drawn to this creature of the night, and loves him as she will love no other.

October 19, 2007: O my gosh this is one of the best book that I have read in years. Normally if a book doesn?t interest me in the first few pages I put in down. No, but this one it was hard to put down. I loved it so much I even read it the second time around. I love the characters, especially Ravens. This book is a must have. I loved it.

April 05, 2007: I admit, I am a bit intimidated to write a review that is less than sterling after reading all the 5 stars. However, I feel I should say a bit something. It is a good story, but I felt a bit... juvenile. *wince* I read this one early on in my new interest of others in the supernatural genre, and admit it would not have gotten me hooked had there not been two others beforehand. I'm not saying don't read it, but I am disappointed that my desperation for something new to consume urged me to buy it. If money is in low supply, it isn't worth the $5.00. I liked Rayven very much. His strength compromised by his love for Rhianna and the terrible struggle to let her go and live without her was absolutely beautiful. Who doesn't love a man strong enough to survive a broken heart? He's a wonderful 'tortured hero'. Also, I love the relationship between servant and master, and the nightly visits. It sort of felt, though, that Rhianna's family was an afterthought. It wasn't very strong in that area. Actually, I think there are several areas it wasn't very strong, but that doesn't detract from the overall feel of the story. It's a good book, but don't buy it before reading it. If you lean toward the more aggressive, action-packed vampire novels, this is not it. This one's gentle and sweet, so-to-speak. It's not blood-pounding, but it does get intense towards the end. You race to see what happens. However, I was very disappointed in how simple the conversion from vampire back to human was. It left me a bit incredulous. I mean, it's nice that it could be that easy, but... realistic? I was disappointed in that part.
