      Synopsis

      The thrilling follow-up to Sebastian.

The Eater of the World continues to spread its dark influence across the realm of Ephemera, corrupting people's souls with doubts and fears. Only Glorianna Belladonna possesses the ability to thwart the Eater's plans. But she has been branded a rogue, and must stand alone against the encroaching entity.

But she is not alone. In dreams, a call has traveled throughout Ephemera-"Heart's hope lies within Belladonna"-and reached Michael, a man with mysterious powers of his own. It awakens a fierce hunger within him to find the dark-haired sorceress he's dreamt of-a beautiful woman named Belladonna. Together, they may be Ephemera's only hope.

      Jackie Cassada - Library Journal

In the world of Ephemera, the Eater of the World is slowly destroying its many landscapes. The only person who has the power to stop the Eater, Glorianna Belladonna is called a rogue and is feared by those who do not understand her power over the land. A mystical call goes out, however, and reaches a man called Michael, who arrives driven to find the mysterious woman at the heart of his dreams. Set against a unique fantasy background and filled with intriguing characters, this sequel to Sebastianis another tale of enchanted worlds that belongs in most libraries.

August 24, 2009: Belladonna was a great little surprise for me... I was a concerned that if I picked up the Ephemera duology it would be closer to Tir Alainn, but Bishop has returned to the darker themes more characteristic of the Black Jewels in Belladonna. In this second book, the Eater of the World is still rampaging loose, and wrecking havoc where ever it goes. Glorianna Belladonna, cousin to Sebastian (the first book's protagonist), is the only person with enough power to stop the Eater - but at what cost to herself and those she loves? I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Still no where near as amazing as the Black Jewels (but, in all honesty, what is?), but I was still very entertained and pleased. I wish there was a bit more development regarding the relationship between Glorianna and Michael, but alas, I can't have it all. Definitely pick this title up if you're a fan of Anne Bishop.

July 15, 2009: I was not as impressed with this book as I was with the first one. The story was being told more slowly and too much of what happened in the first book was being told to us all over again. I didn't feel the connection with the new characters that I felt with the already established characters. And some of the established characters I feel I didn't see as much of them in this book as I would have liked. It was still a good book with a sad climax and a happy ending that left me wanting to know what happens next.

I Also Recommend: The Invisible Ring (Black Jewels Series #6), Sebastian (Ephemera Series #1), Tangled Webs (Black Jewels Series #5), The Shadow Queen (Black Jewels Series #7), The Black Jewels Trilogy.
