In Eileanan, the sea-dwelling Fairgain have refused to sign the Pact of Peace. Driven by ancient hatreds, they have devoted themselves to destroying all who dwell upon the land. To help bring peace, Iseult's flame-haired twin Isabeau must face her most difficult challenge yet.
In a land where witchcraft has been forbidden, young Isabeau learns the old ways in order to take her place in the battle to overcome the forces that threaten her world. Australian poet Forsyth's fantasy debut details a richly imagined universe with a distinctly Celtic flavor and introduces a resourceful and courageous protagonist. This first novel in a projected trilogy belongs in libraries where the demand for epic fantasy is high.

January 18, 2007: This book was able to captivate my imagination, and play out the reading in such a fluent style that i thought i was watching a clip of that part of the story sometimes. A word that could really describe this whole series and the final book itself is captivating! The whole idea of this series and the immensely detailed journey from the Skull of the mountain to Beltane night was beyond the standards of good literature. The whole series was able to make six books seem like an entire world, crafted by the clever hands of Kate Forsyth into a complete and perfect finish that deserves several awards.

March 29, 2004: The Witches of Eileanan Series is the best set of books that I have read. It contains fantasy that, depending on the reader, can bring you right into the book so that instead of reading, you're watching what happens. For those few people who, like me, have experience this feeling, they know how special it is.
