The fifth installment in the StarDoc series, reminiscent of ER on a space ship, finds genetically engineered medic Cherijo Torin, along with her enigmatic husband and slightly unnerving toddler, aboard the Jorenian star vessel Sunlace. Hiding out from the reptilian Hsktskt and the League, not to mention Cherijo's crazy creator, they still manage to end up in the middle of an interstellar war while trying to solve several baffling medical problems as well as work on their own relationship issues. Part space opera, part medical thriller, this novel stands alone reasonably well because of its seamless interweaving of background, breakneck plotting (never a dull moment for poor Dr. Cherijo), and engaging smart-aleck dialogue. The world building is competent, as is the characterization, which runs the gamut from humans to Chief Surgeon Squilyp, an octopus-like creature, and his less-than-charming intended, Garphawayn; to Alunthri, a feline life form; to the blue-skinned Jorenians. Solid light reading, despite a too-heavy reliance on coincidence and the use of a disgusting adenoidal (and sometimes completely unintelligible) baby talk for Cherijo's daughter, Marel, this novel will not only be in demand by fans of the series but could also easily be shopped to hard science fiction fans. I picked this one up the day I saw it on the bookshelf of a local store! Author, S.L. Viehl, still pleases her readers with this awesome series!
Cherijo is well known for her quick come-backs and thinking outside the lines. Her mouth still seems to get her in a lot of trouble, but that is part of the fun in the series.
The entire time I was reading, my husband was in the background nagging me to hurry up so HE could read it. So I feel safe in saying that this series appeals to male and female alike.
A lot of action in this book and more than one mission, however, the missions end up blending together perfectly. Once again the ending leaves just a bit dangling to keep the reader waiting for the next book, but nothing major so the reader feels let down.

July 14, 2002: She called him father until the day she learned she was his clone. Dr. Cherijo Torin escaped from him and his experiments on her but the League, of which earth is a member, denied her request for sentient status and instead declared her the property of her creator. Rather than submit to that megalomaniac man, Cherijo escapes and ends up joining the Jorenian alliance.
Cherijo is happy aboard the Jorenian spaceship Sunlance accompanied by her beautiful daughter and her telepathic Terran husband. She treats the sick and cares for the injured while evading the bounty hunters out to bring her back to her creator. Cherijo never expects a calm life. On this voyage, she and her shipmates are almost sacrificed to a planet?s deity, she plays matchmaker to a lovesick alien, and learns why the natives of an entire planet are sterile but whose inhabitants cannot die. All in a solar moment for Cherijo.
The protagonist?s life is fulfilled, but ever changing and action packed; readers adore and admire Cherijo. ETERNITY ROW is space opera at its very best as the plot contains exotic alien life forms and colorfully fascinatingly strange planets. S.L. Viehl has created a character and a futuristic setting that is second to none in its readability, quality, and social mores.
