    Synopsis

From The New York Times bestselling author-a gloriously romantic favorite, back in print

    Publishers Weekly

Lady Elfin Malloren, sister of Cyn (My Lady Notorious) and Bryght (Tempting Fortune) is 25, virginal and destined to become a spinster with no future except to oversee her brother's estates. Bored of feeling safe, she longs for "wild adventure" and the loss of her virginity. How better to get the job done than to go in disguise as a Frenchwoman named Lisette to Vauxhall's Midsummer Night's masquerade? While hiding from an unwanted suitor, Elf overhears Lord Fort Walgrave, sworn enemy to her family and the man who haunts her dreams, plotting treason. Her effort to bring the traitors to justice without Fort's head ending up on a stake turns into a nicely tense romantic liaison between Elf (still disguised as Lisette) and Fort. Richly atmospheric and evocative of 18th-century London, this charming tale will please Beverley's many fans, and create new ones. (July) FYI: Beverley is one of only three members in the Romance Writer's of America's Hall of Fame.

July 03, 2005: I loved this book so much. Though the ending left much to be desired, I adored the story. Fort has such a presence in the book and Elf is just Elf. As the quirky, impulsive Malloren twin, what more could you expect from your heroine? I knew to expect a great book from jo beverly, but this far exceeded my expectations!!!!!!! It was sheer perfection

August 19, 2002: This book is what made me go out and buy every Jo Beverly book I can get. There is so much good things to say about this book I don't know where to start. Fortitude Ware, what a name, what a hero. Lady Elfled Malloren, what a heroine. What is it about the brooding troubled male that just draws us to them. She dreams of him. He hates her family. Then she finds a way to disguise herself and be with him and he falls for it. Then he finds out who she is and he hates her but can't stop thinking of their one night together. This book is just too good to miss. I have read it three times myself and I still pick it up once in a while to read my favorite parts.
