From the award-winning USA Today bestselling author of DON'T SAY A WORD
When her husband disappears on their wedding night, Kayla fears that she's been an easy mark for deception. Then she meets Nick, a stranger who also crossed paths with Kayla's husband. Together Kayla and Nick embark on a journey to uncover the secrets of their pasts-and the motives of a brilliant con man who's out to get them.
Bestselling novelist Barbara Freethy (Don't Say a Word) has another crowd-pleasing page-turner in the first of a tricky romantic suspense series. After a whirlwind courtship, San Francisco artist Kayla is about to fulfill her dream of marrying Mr. Right and starting a family-but on the wedding night, her dream man abandons her. Meanwhile, engineer Nick Granville returns home to San Francisco after a few months working in Africa to find his house lived in and his bank accounts plundered. Turns out these two strangers were duped by the same man: handsome, blond, smooth-talking Evan Chadwick. Unable to get the attention of the SFPD, the two marks take it upon themselves to track down Evan and get back what's theirs. As the clues accumulate, so do the smoldering glances between broad-shouldered Nick and curvy Kayla, but Freethy's sex scenes have a reportorial feel that may leave readers cold. Evan's cat and mouse game, however, should hook suspense fans and carry them into the next volume-as Evan says, "the game will be over when I say it's over," and this is just his first play. March 08, 2008: I stumbled upon this book when it had been left at the place I was staying on the beach, and was oddly compelled to read it. This was the first Freethy book I had ever read, but I finished it in one short weekend vacation. I couldn't resist the story... or the author! I went out and started a collection of Ms. Freethy's books, immediately reading them all and lending them to my best friend so we'd be able to discuss them. I now have eight of the books and am still collecting!

June 03, 2006: I was pleasantly suprised by this book. I was expecting a quick read and I got an awesome, well writen book. The chemistry between the two is terrific. I picked this up at the store and came home and started it. Before I knew it, it wsa 3am and I was finishing the book. I could not put it down. She is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. It's very easy to add her to the writing likes of Linda Howard and Sandra Brown. Way to go, Ms. Freethy. I can't wait for the next book in this series. Thanks for keeping it going!!
