"A story as rich as a coastal summer," The Color of Light tapped into the mysteries of a woman’s past-and heart. Now, in lyrical and evocative prose, National bestselling author Karen White takes the scattered pieces of a life and weaves them into a tale of hope...
Caroline Collier is a woman bogged down in the harsh realities of a life barely lived. Forced to take a leave of absence from her all-consuming job, she finds herself at her family’s vacation home in the mountains of North Carolina and accompanied by her overbearing, perfect mother. Despite the serenity of Lake Ophelia, memories of her beloved younger brother, who died when Caroline was seventeen, continue to haunt her, while the tension between her mother and her still simmers. Only their neighbors, the attractive widower and daughter of one of Caroline’s childhood friends, as well as her renewed passion for making memory quilts, seem able to penetrate her cool reserve, giving Caroline the courage to face her biggest fears-and dive headfirst into life."Heartwarming and intense..a tale that resonates with the meaning of unconditional love."

Time off brings her anything but peace, however: memories of her dead younger brother haunt her even as she faces a stormy relationship with her mother. Family secrets and family healing permeate a moving story of an adult seeking peace with her past. A recommended read for the topic.

June 21, 2006: Good look at the guilt and turmoil one goes through after the death of a loved one. Great heartfelt read--Reminds me of another great novel (also a romance) about death--Micah's Child by Lang Buchanan.
