Kendall's sparkling third installment in her Bridesmaid Chronicles series (after First Kiss) offers both zany romance and serious probing of her protagonists' emotional depths. Vivien Shelton, a top New York divorce attorney, travels to rural Fredericksburg, Tex., to convince long-time friend Julia to sign a prenuptial agreement before her upcoming marriage to vineyard owner Roman Sonntag. Sparks fly when Viv encounters J.B. Anglin, the Sonntag family attorney with whom she had a one-night fling three years earlier. The flirty banter between Viv and J.B. is deft, with her suave Manhattan socialite lingo pitted against his good ol' boy southern charm. As J.B. must come to terms with his failed first marriage, so Viv is forced to alter her cynical view of marriage and commitment. But Viv and J.B. aren't the only characters in town, as evidenced by a colorful emu chase and Viv's encounter with local law enforcement. This witty, well-crafted entry bodes well for the final volume, First Love. Agent, Kim Whalen at Trident. (Aug.) Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.

October 28, 2008: Karen Kendall has done it again! Another smart, sexy, savvy book in The Bridesmaid Chronicles, FIRST DANCE revolves around the third bridesmaid in the upcoming wedding of Julia Spinelli and Roman Sonntag.

In this installment, Manhattan divorce attorney Vivien Shelton is already amazed that she's a bridesmaid in a wedding. The irony doesn't escape her. What she can't figure out is why she's having such a hard time convincing the bride, Julia, to sign a pre-nuptial agreement before the wedding. After all, Vivien knows that love rarely lasts. She sees everyday the way former couples can destroy each other, and she doesn't want to see the same thing happen to her friend. And besides, Roman gave Julia a cubic zirconia ring, for goodness sake! An ironclad pre-nup sounds like the best wedding present she could ever give her best friend. So she's off to Fredericksburg , Texas , to make sure her friend doesn't bite off more than she can chew.

For J.B. Anglin, the best man, protecting his best friend Roman's best interests is the most important thing. Being the Sonntag family lawyer has its responsibilities, and making sure Roman isn't sucked into an unfair pre-nuptial agreement is at the top of his list. Imagine his surprise when he discovers that the lawyer pushing for the agreement is none other than hot-shot divorce attorney Vivien, a woman known for her cynical views on love and marriage-and also the woman he had a sizzling one-night-stand with three years ago after a battle in court. Their relationship hadn't worked out back then, with J.B. in Texas and Vivien in Manhattan , and he's still stung over the way things ended. Now, when they're battling over the interests of their two best friends, seems like the perfect time to have it out, once and for all.

I loved FIRST DANCE. Wonderful characters, unforgettable dialogue, and plenty of laugh-out-loud scenes make this a perfect addition to The Bridesmaid Chronicles. The way Vivien and J.B. fight and love is reminiscent of numerous couples I know, and kept me in stitches. This book is a great way to spend a relaxing evening, laughing at the antics of two people who just can't figure out that if they'd ever stop arguing, they'd find a love worth fighting for.

September 16, 2005: Three years ago, Vivien Shelton slept with attorney J.B. Anglin. Feeling things she had never felt before in the arms of a man scared the ball-busting attorney out of her wits, so she did the only thing she could to stop those feelings: she kicked him out of her hotel room, leaving him in the hallway. Needless to say, when J.B. sees Vivien again in his hometown, he?s not too happy. In fact, he?s pretty darn angry. Vivien has left her New York life behind for a few days in order to get her best friend Julia Spinelli to sign a prenuptial agreement before her marriage to a Texas winemaker. Coming face to face with J.B. again makes Vivien?s heart race. Is there any way to salvage the situation without losing her heart to the tall Texan? J.B. can?t believe that Vivien would have the nerve to come to him for help to get Julia and Roman to sign a prenup. J.B. is against everything a prenup stands for, proving once again how different Vivien is from him. Everything he values, she cynically derides as idealistic nonsense. But as Julia slyly forces J.B. and Vivien together under the guise of wedding help, the attraction that both J.B. and Vivien long to forget springs to life all over again. J.B. wants to show Vivien that love is a real emotion and that she doesn?t have to hide her heart from him. Vivien wants to believe J.B. is the real thing, a real man who would not only be a partner in marriage, but a friend and lover, but she?s seen the seedy side of marriage much to often to put stock in his beliefs. Is there any hope for reconciliation between these two? FIRST DANCE is the third book in The Bridesmaid Chronicles. It is a mixture of laughter, warmth, love, anger, and prewedding jitters. Karen Kendall develops the characters of J.B. and Vivien as to make them charming and caring, but also with less appealing sides, just like a regular person. Viv is a cynic, and though she loves her dogs, she puts no trust in men. J.B. thought his first marriage was destined to last forever, but he finds out that happily-ever-after isn?t as easy as he thought it would be. This book features several laugh out loud moments, including an emu chase that is sure to bring a smile to your face. Karen Kendall brings her characters to life with the help of a picture perfect setting, some wedding hijinks, and plenty of romance to keep J.B. and Vivien sparring and kissing throughout the story. Ms. Kendall started this trilogy with a great story and FIRST DANCE is just continuing that pattern.
