October 21, 2005: Lanie Weber receives news that her father a scientist studying a rare legendary life form in South America, has died. Deeply saddened by this news she prepares to fly down and see for herself, as she did not have that opportunity when her mother died. She needed to see him one last time for closure. Unfortunately she has to take a chartered flight and Lanie hates to fly. She also didn?t bargain for the fact her pilot would be a drop-dead ex-Navy SEAL with an attitude to match......................... However any attraction or romance have to take a backseat right now as Lanie arrives at the laboratory in the middle of the jungle and does not find her father but rather many dead bodies and a stone statue of the legendary Chupacabra outside in a cage. Curiosity gets the better of Lanie as she releases the cage door to get a closer look. Unfortunately, the sun has set and the now stone Chupacabra is alive and breathing. Noticing this, Mac Knight?s training kicks in as he tries to save her from being eaten. Luckily Mac is just in time to save Lanie but not himself as the Chupacabra turns on him. Lanie manages to scare off the creature and pull Mac to safety, where she spends the rest of the night trying to save his life from the massive blood loss he suffered.................. The story explodes as Lanie and Mac soon find out that both her father and another rogue ex-Navy SEAL, Lance Burton, are still roaming the earth as the undead? vampires. Ms. Popp does a great job of creating her own spin on the vampire tale giving it a real contemporary twist. And so the adventure unfolds as both Lanie?s father and Lance Burton manage to get back to the states taking the Chupacabra with them. However what Lance doesn?t realize is that while Mac is not undead he does have many of the vampire traits and strengths to put up a good fight........................ This is an interesting and fast paced read. The characters are solid and believable. I found I was very eager for the bad guy to get his due and to learn more about the Chupacabra. To me this book seemed to be setting the stage for future writings so the romance between Lanie and Mac seems more secondary to this story but still sweet! Definitely worth checking out this novel as Robin T. Popp has once again proved she is a solid author and here to stay.

September 06, 2005: Robin T. Popp's Out of the Night is a page-turning, action-packed, thrill-a-minute, sexy adventure into the frightening world of vampires and those who fight them. When you finish one chapter, you're on to the next before you realize what you've done! Never read a vampire book? Make this your first. Never read Robin T. Popp? You'll clamor for more when you're done with this one. Based on the fascinating tales of the legendary chupacabra, Out of the Night takes the reader on a vampire adventure you pray will remain the stuff of fiction. The hero and heroine--Mac and Lanie--face seemingly insurmountable obstacles as they struggle to understand the terrible power unleashed in the Amazon jungle. All the while they fight another powerful battle, a growing attraction for one another. This is a story of the darkness and the unknown, and the man and woman courageous and passionate enough to face them both. Robin T. Popp is a master story-teller. I've never been a huge fan of vampire books, but having read and loved Popp's futuristic Too Close to the Sun, I knew I was going to love Out of the Night. I wasn't disappointed. Can't wait for the next one!
