July 29, 2009: This is the 4th book in Ms. Robert's series featuring the cute, zaney redhead dance instructor, Jenny T. Partridge.
We find out who has been stalking Jenny in that silver Hummer since book one. Finally! This book opens with Jenny preparing for another dance competition, a big championship that she hopes will bring in some much needed money and hopefully some new students. The first thing to confront her in her studio is a gorilla with a threatening singing telegram, who later is found dead, costume and all, in "Bessie", her dad's truck, on loan to her, since, like Stephanie Plum, Jenny has had a hard time hanging onto cars that seem to explode. That silver Hummer is back this time with a vengeance and Jenny has had to move into boyfriend, Detective Tate Wilson's apartment. Tate's half sister, Malece, shows up with a bad attitude about life in general, but Jenny finds out that she has a real gift for sewing and designing clothes so Jenny puts her to work at the studio. An old friend, Trevor Paulsen,, who would love to be more to Jenny than just a friend, also shows up and offers his master dance services to whip the girl's into shape for the competition. This all happens because Sal, her regular dance instructor is in the hospital with a fractured leg. Yes, his fall was sort of Jenny's fault. Anyway, it turns out several people she knows own a silver Hummer....almost all of them hold a grudge against her. Tate gives her two Soprano type body guards, who take their job seriously, turning Jenny into a Mafia Princess as she is chauffeured around in a big black car. There is a second story line in this which involves Jenny's best friend and accountant, Marlys. Maryls believes her husband, Roger, is having an affair when he says he works late. Between Jenny and her bodyguards they track down the wayward husband which puts another spin on the story, making it look like the Russian mafia may be involved. Confusing? No, not really, Ms. Roberts weaves her story beautifully and with humor until the conclusion, which happens on the last night of the dance competition. It all comes to a head and the mystery of the nasty silver Hummer person is put to rest. I would never have guessed this ending ever! Well worth the read.......Ms. Roberts gets better and better with each book. Also, Tate and Jenny have become closer, but we have to wait until the next book to see what transpires on some issues confronting them in the romance department. Will she or won't she? Sadly, Marlys and her husband, Roger, have some fences to mend. Great read.
