      Synopsis

The stitchers of the Embroiderers Guild raised over $20,000 for charity—but the representative who accepted the check at the annual convention disappeared with it. It turns out that he’s the husband of the local chapter president, Allie Germaine, who insists on his innocence. But if Bob Germaine didn’t pocket the check, who did? And where is Bob now? Since needlework shop owner Betsy Devonshire has broken her leg horseback riding, solving the latest crime will have to be a group project.

Jo Ann Vicarel - Library Journal

Bob Germaine receives a check for $24,000 for the charity he works for and promptly disappears. Betsy Devonshire, laid up with a badly broken leg, must rely on her friends to investigate. With a pattern or two included to cheer the needleworker, this charming series will appeal to cozy fans. Ferris lives in Minnesota. [See Prepub Mystery, LJ8/07.]

June 09, 2008: Enjoy some needlework while you sit out this plodding plot and wait for the next installment. Hopefully it will be worth the wait. This one wasn't.

December 20, 2007: I own and have read all 11 books in this series, five of them autographed by the author. This book was very out of step from the others. Some of the characters are beneath the dignity of previous books. I love needlepoint and mysteries, but Betsy and needlework were not real features of this book. Needlework references seemed to be artificial additions to the story. Ms. Ferris, please bring back realistic needlework references and all the personalities of Crewel World. Perhaps sending some of them on a needlework centered trip. China or the British Isles would be very interesting destinations with rich histories in needlework!
