October 22, 2007: I was hooked from the first page of this book when a dying pharaoh describes how his body will be preserved for eternity. The author knows her ancient Egyptian mythology that's for sure. Thankfully the historical details enrich the story rather than detract from it. Then the action switches to current day Las Vegas and that's really interesting, too. I was surprised by how different this vampire story is from the rest of the vampire paranormals I've read. Plus, it's a deeply touching love story between an extraordinary man and the woman he has dreamed about for centuries. This is the first book of a new series according to the author's web site. I'm eager to see what she does next!

September 11, 2007: I enjoy books on Egypt and vampires, so I thought this would be the perfect romance - boy, was I wrong. I know romance novels aren't exactly literary genius, but this was worse than the average fare. The plot is weak and fuzzy, the characters are uninteresting, and some of the gushing purple prose had me in fits of giggles. Parts of it left me confused, and I felt as if I'd been thrown into the story halfway through. I only continued reading because I was on a plane with nothing else to do!
