From the USA Today bestselling author comes the first in a magical romantic fantasy trilogy.
Darkness covers the north, since the black mage has begun his assault on the kingdom of Neroche. Legend has it that only the two magical swords held by Neroche's king can defeat the mage. Now the fate of the Nine Kingdoms rests in the hands of a woman destined to wield one of those blades...
In this land of dragons and mages, warrior maids and magical swords, nothing is as it seems. And Morgan will find that the magic in her blood brings her troubles she cannot face with a sword-and a love more powerful than she has ever imagined.

August 28, 2009: At first, I was very disappointed with the ending. Nothing was really tied up. However, once I discovered this book was a series, I completely changed my mind. If viewed as the fist book in a series, it does an adequate job of setting up the main characters: Morgan, Miach, Adhemar, and Nicholas. This book as given to be by a friend that knows I like fantasy novels. I found this book to be heavy on the romance and light in the fantasy. Only one of the good guys is a non-human creature. The description of the non-human evil creatures is not very deep. The battles were far between and not very descriptive. I would not classify this book as a fantasy novel just because it has magic in it. Its an OK read for by the pool. Don't think I'll be continuing the series.

June 06, 2009: I have since ordered all of Lynn Kurland's books and I absolutely love them. Yeh, they are romance stories and love always finds a way, but the journey is in the story and Ms. Kurland writes beautiful stories with lots of twists and turns that keep you wondering. You feel like you are there/part of her story in a wonderful, magical, enchanting world of castles, knights in shining armor, damsels in distress, and even a few interfering old ghosts thrown in for good measure here and there (though no ghosts in this story).
I Also Recommend: A Garden in the Rain, The Mage's Daughter, Princess of the Sword (Nine Kingdoms Series #3), Dreams of Stardust, Just Breathe.
