      Synopsis

      It's chic to be geek!

If you're somebody like Shelby Chappelle, a smart, witty, pretty geek army of one, you can't just put a poster up at school and advertise for somebody to be your best friend. But now freakishly tall Becca Gallagher has moved to town, with her dragon tattoo and wild ideas. Suddenly Shelby's madscientist father and their robot, Euphoria, seem normal. They become best friends instantly. But Becca wants to shake things up at school and look for "others of our kind"...and decides to form the Queen Geek Social Club.

The thing is, this guy Fletcher Berkowitz keeps nosing around, asking lots of questions about the Club. He's cute, and interesting, and possibly likes Shelby. Therefore, she must torture him. One good thing about being a loner: no one can break your heart.

      KLIATT

Ninth-grader Shelby Chapelle is used to living a solitary existence. She's never really had a best friend, or any real friends, for that matter. Her mother is dead and her father is a reclusive inventor who spends most of his life in his mad scientist lab. The nearest thing she has to a friend is Euphoria, a robot her father created to act as mother, housekeeper, babysitter, and confidant. But when Shelby meets Becca, the tall, tattooed, and opinionated new girl, she finds a true friend. The girls quickly bond over their outsider status (something they both relish and champion). They both like reading and SF movies, and are exasperated by most of humanity. Becca decides they need to seek out more of their kind, so they start the Queen Geek Social Club. No longer invisible on campus, Shelby finds herself involved in crazy schemes to promote the Geek cause. As the girls plan National Invisible Boy Day, a day dedicated to ignoring boys, Shelby is annoyed to find herself growing increasingly intrigued with Fletcher, an intelligent, persistent, and popular sophomore. Preble has successfully created a thoroughly enjoyable story. The vibrant and out-of-the-ordinary characters keep the plot moving with their endless scheming and plotting for the Geek revolution. Though the Social Club is focused on tackling social issues and activism, Becca and Shelby also honestly address popularity, parental relationships, romance, and friendship. Readers will be inspired by their antics and wish to befriend the Queen Geeks.

November 14, 2008: Everything was perfectly fine for Shelby Chapelle. After her mother had passed away, she was used to her life being just about her father, her robot, and herself. She was fine with the fact that she was not the most popular person at her school. Sure, she kept to herself most of the time, but she did go on dates with guys from her school, she was smart, and she knew some people. Shelby's life seemed normal to her. But then everything changed when the freakishly tall girl with the dragon tattoo came into her class. She was weird and a little intimidating, but the new girl, Becca Gallagher, became Shelby's first real friend.

Weeks later, Becca starts to come over to Shelby's house to meet her weird father and her weird mother-like robot, and hang out. Shelby would fill Becca in as to all the necessary info about Green Pines High School, the school that they attended, and Becca would discuss her crazy life. Sure, Becca was a little wild with odd ideas, but Shelby was fine with it. That is until Becca comes up with the strangest idea ever. What if they could create a group to join all the girl geeks from the school to first take over the school's social hierarchy--and then the world? At first, it seemed like the craziest idea, but Shelby didn't want to lose her only friend so she went along with it. Soon, the girls start the Queen Geeks Social Club and girls start to join. They devise a plan to collect Twinkies to send to a modeling agency to stop models from going hungry. Why Twinkies? Because they can last through a nuclear explosion, that's why.

Things could not get any weirder, until some guy, Fletcher Berkowitz, enters the picture. He may be one of the coolest and popular guys in school, but to Shelby he's just plain annoying. For some reason, he likes Shelby, but of course she has no idea why. Along with that, Shelby's dad starts to act even more weird than usual. Not only is he out of his lab, but he seems a little happier.

Everything started going crazy right when Becca Gallagher entered Shelby's life. It's now up to Shelby to find out what Becca really wants, and to solve the problems which need to be solved.

THE QUEEN GEEK SOCIAL CLUB was a fantastic read that was a definite page-turner. Fast-paced and well-developed, Laura Preble captures the mind of a teenager to the fullest. The fact that Shelby was a geek and not some materialistic girl made the story much more fun to read. A coming-of-age story that not only sparks the mind but also strikes a spot in your heart, THE QUEEN GEEK SOCIAL CLUB is a novel that should be on everyone's must-read list.

November 11, 2008: This book is remarkable to read during you spare time throughout the day. It?s about a freshman named Shelby Chapelle. She is the typical geek you can find walking around campus, but she a little bit different from the rest because her father is a great researcher who?s found a way to make a friendly robot do all the chores in the house named Euphoria. Shelby has everything you need to be happy except a best friend, this all change one day at school when she meant Becca Gallagher a girl who is extremely tall with wild ideas and a dragon tattoo on her leg and this makes Shelby feel comfortable in her own skin that she found someone like herself. They find a bond with each other, soon they find more of their kind (geeks) and start a club, the Queen Geek Social Club is born. All though the club starts out great there are some thing that are getting Shelby nervous, Becca begins with this idea of trying to make people understand and convince them how skinny models are and the club start asking students from their school to help them send junk food to the major company. As the idea goes through this cause Becca to try to change the whole school into geek society so none of them can be left out and as this is happening Shelby has many second thoughts and mixed internal feeling about staying in this club. But Becca convinced Shelby to stay because she is one of ?founding father? of this club. Soon Becca and Shelby join an after school program to start making the club popular but no one likes them except for a great stud named Fletcher Berkowitz as time goes on Fletcher begins to bug Shelby with questions about the club as if he is interested, but Shelby knows that he likes her and is asking to be her friend to ruin her club. So in every way possible she ignores or upsets him in the best way discovered. By the end of the school year while the after school program is organizing the school dance Shelby suddenly accepts that she enjoys Fletcher and Becca both as friends. But soon Shelby and Fletcher begin to like each other in a different ways. By the end of the book many new surprises happen making it a great page-turner. I recommend this book a hundred percent to girls in their teenage years or early twenties.
