    Synopsis

A Georgia swamp is the perfect place for forest ranger Adam Marshall to hide his werewolf nature. But when he finds himself irresistibly drawn to biologist Sara Weston, their future is threatened by a coven of witches with a score to settle with the locals.

    Publishers Weekly

The newest entry in York's paranormal Moon series opens with the attention-grabbing first line: "The last guy who had walked in his shoes was a dead man." Hero Adam Marshall, a Georgia nature preserve ranger, has an edge over his murdered predecessor, however; his feet transform into big hairy paws. The naturalist with a nose for crime-busting is a werewolf. The mysterious marshland shelters secrets and superstitions of its own, including a coven of witches who won't be stopped in their generations-old quest for revenge. Dr. Sara Weston, a young botanist with a flair for medicinal herbs-in addition to more fantastical talents she's blocked all her life-aids Adam, but will she get in touch with her powers before she becomes a victim? Since the villains and the source of Sara's powers are revealed early on, this book is considerably less suspenseful than York's previous offering, Edge of the Moon. Still, York's colorful characterizations, mood-setting sentences ("The rustling sound skittered over her skin like insect legs") and flair for details make this paranormal romance a compulsive read. October 19, 2006: I read this book and found that I could not put it down. It captivated me. I've always enjoyed witch, vampire, and werewolf books, but this one was great. I look forward to reading more of her stories.

August 29, 2003: Near Wayland in South Georgia is the Olakimpa swamp home to the privately owned Nature?s Refuge. When Chief Ranger Ken White is murdered owner Austen Barnette hires US Parks Ranger Adam Marshall, who has a powerful reputation for catching criminals, as the replacement.

Adam changes into his wolf persona to run the park at night, but notices a fire. When he investigates, he finds himself almost hypnotized. He manages to return to human form, but not before someone tries to kill him. The next morning he sees a woman wandering the park, but learns that Sara Watson is researching the local flora as part of an agreement between Barnette and Granville Pharmaceuticals. As Adam and Sara fall in love, they must combine their efforts to stop a deadly coven even as her witch powers enhance his werewolf abilities.

This werewolf sequel stars another Marshall that will excite readers as much as the previous Moon books did. The story line is fast-paced from the moment Adam goes wolf until the end (refuse to give it away even at the threat of a canine bite). Sara is a great character struggling to contain and hide her inner essence and powers behind a scientific fa?ade. Rebecca York bewitches her moonlight fans once again with a strong supernatural romance that makes werewolves, witches, and covens (oh my) alive.
