    Synopsis

The RITA Award-winning author of HeartMate sweeps readers away to the planet Celta -- where one's psychic talents are the key to life...and to love.

    Library Journal

Returning to the planet Celta, the world of psychically gifted people first introduced in the RITA Award-winning HeartMate, Owens spins an entrancing tale of Ruiz Elder, a noble son despised and banished because of his lack of traditional psychic gifts-except for his disconcerting ability to nullify the psychic talents of those around him. Ailim, the compassionate, empathetically gifted judge and head of a noble house, is intrigued by Ruiz's "nullness" and attracted to him despite his outlaw status. Although the setting is fresh and totally captivating (the ancient spaceship is priceless), it is the well-developed characters, both human and animal, that make this story memorable. Crafty villains, honorable, resourceful protagonists, and sentient pets drive the plot of this fast-paced, often suspenseful romantic adventure. As have others before her (e.g., Anne McCaffrey, Marion Zimmer Bradley), Owens has penned a stunning futuristic tale that reads like fantasy and is sure to have crossover appeal to both sf and fantasy fans. December 01, 2004: Heart Thief is great for readers who enjoy a little paranormal in their romance. Everyone on Celta has magical abilities except for Ruis. He just negates the magic of anyone around him. Thus everyone shuns him except Ailim. Ailim's magical ability is telepathic, most times to her dismay. Being near Ruis finally gives her a quiet she has never had before. Ruis though has an uncle, Bucus, who would like to secure his place as head of the house of Elder but needs Ruis dead to insure this. Ailim's honesty as a judge and love as a woman will see her place her own life in danger to protect Ruis from the wrongs she feels society and Bucus have dealt to Ruis.

September 06, 2003: I just finished HEART THIEF. What a great read. I loved the first book, HEART MATE, and it is still my favorite, but this one is oh so delicious. Ruis is a wonderful, wounded hero. He has so much anger and pain to over come and with Ailim's love and help he does but that is not the whole story. The story is of two people, outcasts in their society, one because of her great psi powers and one because of his lack of them, who come together and find joy, love and peace within themselves and each other. Samba, Ruis FAMcat, is a treat. She is just what you would think of if all cats could talk. She is prissy, has a superior attitude and yet is loving. When it suits her! We get to see many of the characters from HEART MATE and relive that book as well while enjoying the new ones we meet. There is great evil, adventure, passion, a Ship that is sentient and a great cast of good, bad and simply human characters. You won't be disappointed but simply delighted. Bravo Robin!! I can't wait for HEART DUEL, the next book about Celta, due out in May 2004. Robin even gives us a little taste of HEART DUEL by giving us the first chapter at the end of HEART THIEF. Did I love HEART THIEF? YES!!!! It's a definite keeper!
