    Synopsis

Spirited ex-cowgirl, quilter, and folk-art expert Benni Harper is back, investigating the connection between her favorite author, the murder of a family friend, and a crazy quilt. And when she starts receiving strange phone calls and anonymous letters telling her she'll be the next victim, her interest in the case becomes even more urgent.

    The Washington Post

Fowler's charm as a storyteller derives from the way she unpredictably sews all these and several other disparate plots together, just like one of those quilts in Benni's museum. Characters' lives crisscross over time, patterns emerge, random actions beget pleasing, as well as ugly, results. And, as Sunshine and Shadow suggests, one dropped stitch can ultimately cause the whole crazy-quilt pattern of a family's life to fall apart. — Maureen Corrigan

November 20, 2008: Overall, thius is a good book with interesting characters. The plot switches from past to present awkwardly at first but more smoothly as the reader moves through the book. The past conflict between Gabe & Bennie should be developed more fully for the reader, but overall an entertaining read.
