      Synopsis

As the War of the Roses comes to a close, the houses of York and Lancaster seem to have put their old battles to rest. But too many players are within a stone's throw of the throne. Amidst political strife, Heloise Ballaster, maid-of-honor to Richard of Gloucester's duchess, and Sir Miles Rushden, friend and adviser to the Duke of Buckingham, are about to be ensnared in love's trap, all the while struggling to stay alive in this deadly battle for the crown.

December 31, 2006: The Formula: A lovely maiden with silver hair. A scarred (face and soul) knight with a mind for king-making. And a wedding at sword-point between the two....Oh Yeah! When Sir Miles Rushden faces a youthful knight across a field, he never suspects that he will be drawn into a whirlwind of events that will lead him to the alter with the one beneath the helm! Heloise Ballaster hides her silvery hair beneath elaborate headdresses for fear of others' suspicions. When her father forces Miles Rushden to marry her, she knows that though her life had been nothing more than a series of hardships, it was about to get more difficult. Miles escapes and her father forces Heloise to seek him out on pain of being cast out without a penny! In distant Wales, Heloise takes up a noble identity and faces her reluctant husband with the courage she had shown on the field of honor. In an adventure shadowed by the Duke of Buckingham, Heloise's sister and father, and opposing armies bent on destruction, Heloise and Miles find a consuming love that could endure all but the darkest treachery...BRAVO!

      Rather Boring?by Anonymous

March 03, 2006: The long-winded and archaic-sounding passages spoil the romance between Heloise and Miles. Though immaculately researched and detailed, the politics of the book overshadow the romance. The book would have been better if deemed historical fiction rather than historical romance. I found the dialogue stilted, the romance mundane, and the storyline boring. It should have been titled 'Moonlight and Shadows: Cure for Insomnia'.
