    Synopsis

The Burning Point is New York Times bestselling author Mary Jo Putney's first contemporary novel, a riveting story of the ties that bind two people together--and the incendiary forces that can tear them apart.

"Sure to light a fire in the contemporary romance market. Mary Jo Putney is a sure winner."--Debbie Macomber, New York Times bestselling author

    Publishers Weekly

Known for her historical romances (The Wild Child, etc.), Putney successfully moves into contemporary fiction. Kate Corsi and Patrick Donovan, divorced 10 years ago, are reunited by the death of Kate's father, Sam, who was killed in an explosion at work. The Corsi family company, Phoenix Demolition, takes pride in its spotless accident record, and Sam's death is suspicious. His will leaves the business to his former son-in-law, on the condition that Donovan and Kate live under the same roof for one year. If Kate refuses, the company will be sold. Forbidden by her father to work for the company, Kate now has her chance to work at Phoenix. But can she work and live in such close proximity to the ex-husband she seems to both love and fear? This passionate love story unravels gradually, in trademark Putney style. The author has created a realistic, well-crafted story, laced with elements of suspense and mystery and featuring sympathetic protagonists whose biggest mistake was marrying too young. July 16, 2002: This in an excellent book even though the plot deals with a very sensitive topic, spousal abuse. But that is the key--the problem is addressed. In reading this book, the reader gets to know the characters, their flaws and their admirable traits. What I really loved about it is that the characters seemed so real--they could be a sibling, spouse, friend or even yourself. Mary Jo keeps the plot moving along until the end. I plan on reading The Spiral Path (a sequel) and I hope Mary Jo writes about some of the other characters introduced in The Burning Point.

February 12, 2002: This book was just way too much. I found myself exclaiming, 'Give me a break' and 'Oh, brother' as I read this book. If Patrick were any more in touch with his 'feminine side' he would have been a woman. Very unbelievable. Not a very good read.
