October 14, 2005: This is a beautifully told story of love and hope, and is a quiet, deeply moving story. It could be considered slow-moving, but it's a quiet, peaceful book with a different tempo. It's about Hope's love for her ranch, which is dying from lack of water, and her hope of finding a way to save it. Rio is the only possibility of finding water on the property, and his quiet strength gives her the ability to keep hoping as time is running out. Rio doesn't stay anywhere long, so as Hope is falling in love, she also knows he won't be hers. Rio's also in love, and despairs that he's not a different kind of man. It's a very tender, special book.

March 11, 2005: I loved this book! The principal characters were interesting and believable. I couldn't put it down until I was through. Had dreams and visions of cattle, water, and a dark stranger named Rio for months. I reread it as often as I can; wanting to dream with Hope and wanting to see Rio again in the pages of this outstanding novel.
