    Synopsis

    The trouble with men...

Eve Van Dormer can't believe it — the beautiful, brainy millionaire's daughter is stuck with Wyatt Culver as her bodyguard, thanks to her over-reactive father. She's doubly shocked at the choice too — after all, dear old Dad once tossed Wyatt's rather attractive backside out of her life. As for attending their class reunion ... what's the most dangerous thing that could happen — assault with a deadly yearbook? Besides, Wyatt's strong, quiet sensuality is making Eve quickly realize that her body definitely needs guarding — from his!

    Is that they're trouble!

Protecting Eve is a job Wyat can handle, but what's happened to the Eve he once knew, a woman filled with teasing laughter who'd do anything for a stolen kiss with him? Wyatt has his instructions — keep her ex-husband away and keep her happy — but he knows Eve will be happy only when she allows passion back into her life...so how can he convince her that he's the man for the job?

Her novels regularly appear on the USA Today and Waldenbooks bestseller lists, and her last book for Avon, The Thing About Men, was a New York Times Extended List bestseller. She's been nominated for the prestigious RITA Award, has won the coveted National Readers' Choice Award, and Romantic Times magazine has seen fit to honor her with two Career Achievement Awards. There are more than seven million copies of her books in print worldwide. She resides in her native Kentucky with her husband and son, not to mention two very troubled cats.

April 20, 2001: The Van Dormer twins, Eve and Simone are headed to Cincinnati, Ohio for their 20th high school reunion but they aren't going alone because their father Luther Van Dormer has hired them bodyguards. After the girl's senior prom Luther packed up his family in the dark of night and left Cincinnati for mysterious reasons, moved them to Santa Barbara, California. Now someone has sent Luther a letter telling him that if any Van Dormer steps over the state line they will come home in pieces. Eve needs to revisit a happier time in her life before her miserable marriage to her control freak ex-husband, so she was flying to Ohio for her high school reunion until her father's hired bodyguard, Wyatt Culver kidnaps her. There had always been a strange electrical current between Eve and Wyatt while in high school, that had short circuited on their prom night leaving Eve bare-chested and weeping all alone in the back seat of a 1978 Chevy Nova. Wyatt Culver had never forgotten Eve Van Dormer, she was his dream girl. Strong, sexy, and sassy but the woman standing before him wasn't the same radiant girl of his youth, she had been beaten down over the years. Her father wanted her protected but he also wants Wyatt to show Eve a good time on the way back to Cincinnati. Maybe he could also find the words to explain to her why he had suddenly stopped making love to her on prom night and walked away. Simone had spent 20 years thinking of blond Brian Richie, the boy she had wanted to spend the rest of her life with, having blond haired, blue eyed baby girls. She had very special plans for Brian now that his wife was dead, but her father has thrown a kink in her plans when he attached a tall, dark, sexy bodyguard to her side. Julian Varga is taking her mind off Brian when she needs to be concentrating on her mission. Simone intrigues Julian Varge, Wyatt had told him she was the quite, shy, plain twin but the woman standing in front of him now is anything but plain. First thing he notices right off is that she doesn't wear underwear. How can he do his job watching for bad guys when he can't take his eyes off her backside? She also doesn't seem to notice him which throws him off balance because women always notice and want Julian. HE COULD BE THE ONE is a romantic comedy about two couples, one driving to Ohio and being reacquainted with each other. The other, strangers that spend a week together in a hotel suite as Simone visits all of her old hometown haunts. Wyatt tries to put into adult words the reasoning of a teenage boy, while Eve becomes that sassy woman again. Simone explains her 20-year fascination with the blond hometown boy and Julian finds out why Simone hasn't worn underwear since prom night. The dialogue is fun and lively as readers stroll down memory lane remembering what it was like to be a teenager. Debbie Gilbert

March 25, 2001: Two decades ago, eccentric multimillionaire businessman Luther Van Dormer abruptly left Cincinnati suburb Woodhaven with his two daughters in hand. He resettled in California. Now he calls Wyatt Culver, who took his daughter Eve to the prom that night before she relocated, asking him to kidnap his daughter so she will not attend her high school reunion. Wyatt fears for the safety of his beloved children in their hometown after a deal went sour years ago.

Private investigator Wyatt Culver and his partner Julian Varga reluctantly agree to the abduction. Although he knows what a spitfire Eve was, Luther was not prepared for the wild woman driving him crazy. Even stranger is the reaction between Julian and Eve?s sister Simone. As the two sleuths struggle to keep their charges abducted and safe, they fall in love with the siblings who know that these men could be the ones for them.

HE COULD BE THE ONE is an amusing romantic suspense romp that will remind readers of classic movies like ?Bringing Up Baby?. The story line combines angst, humor, and intrigue into a wonderful plot. The four key characters and their interactions make the wild ride seems genuine, touching, and just fun to follow. Elizabeth Bevarly has written a contemporary winner.
