    Synopsis

    A Dangerous Obsession

Torn from his Romany mother's arms as a small boy, Viscount Emilian St. Xavier has spent a lifetime ignoring the whispers of gypsy that follow him everywhere. A nobleman with wealth, power and privilege, he does not care what the gadjos think. But when the Romany come to Derbyshire with news of his mother's murder at the hands of a mob, his world implodes. And Ariella de Warenne is the perfect object for his lust and revenge....

    A Dangerous Passion

Ariella de Warenne's heritage assures her a place in proper society, though as a radical and independent thinker she scorns her peers' frivolous pursuits in fashion and marriage. Until a Roma camp arrives at Rose Hill, and she finds herself drawn to their charismatic leader, Emilian. Even when he warns her away, threatening that he intends to seduce and destroy her, she cannot refuse him. For Ariella is just as determined to fight for their dangerous love...

    Publishers Weekly

In Joyce's latest de Warenne Dynasty Victorian romance (following The Perfect Bride), Ariella de Warenne is an extremely well-traveled young gentlewoman with radical thoughts and an independent lifestyle. Viscount Emilian St. Xavier is half-gypsy, and his hatred for the gadjos-non Gypsies-threatens to consume him. When his gypsy family makes camp on the de Warenne estate, Emilian discovers that his mother was killed as a result of bigotry in Scotland and vows revenge against the gadjos. Upon meeting Ariella and discovering her attraction for him, he at first thinks that, like other English gentlewomen, she only wants him for sex. When she asks for his friendship, he decides that she will make the perfect instrument of his rage-despite the honorable Englishman in him. The basic "virginity for revenge" plot is common, and while Ariella is a genuinely radical thinker, Emilian is eye-rollingly over the top- except at the very end, where he seems very much flesh and blood. July 18, 2009: Ariella de Warenne isn't your usual woman. Ariella is independent and not at all proper for a woman. When all woman wanted marriage Ariella wanted someone she could talk to and believed as she did. A Romney camp has settled at her family's home of Rose Hill, Ariella goes with her father, Cliff de Warenne to see what's going on. She sees a beautiful Romney man and falls head over heels in love with him. Emilian St. Xavier was taken, by his father, from his Rom mother when he was twelve years old. He learned to be a nobleman, but he knew he could never be one. When trouble starts Emilian swears he will cause trouble for the gadjos, he takes what Ariella offers, but he soon finds out he hurt the wrong person.

I couldn't put this book down, I love the de Warenne saga. Ariella was such a unusual woman, I was angry when Emilian used her the way he did. But in the end it all worked out. Doesn't it always? Even if you haven't read any of the de Warenne books this one can stand alone
