    Synopsis

With her healing gift and extra senses going haywire, epidemiologist Eve St. Giles knew the deadly flu outbreak in the small Swiss town was no natural disaster. Had someone manufactured a virus--one that targeted women? If Eve didn't track down the origin, millions could die.

She could search alone, or accept help from a questionable source--the man she'd loved and lost. Nick Petter seemed to know more than he was telling. Yet Eve had little choice but to trust him as she raced to harness ancient healing rites in time to avert a modern medical apocalypse....

    Biography

A workers' compensation insurance defense attorney by day, Carol burns the midnight oil to write romance novels. She credits her parents' nightly ritual of reading to her as a child for her love of writing and books. The die was cast, though, when she was 11 when her mother introduced her to the gothic romances. She's grateful her own tales of hard-fought love have touched others -- she's won the Maggie, the Emily, and the Golden Chance awards.

Bitten at a young age by the community involvement bug, Carol has served as president of the Florida Romance Writers and on numerous committees for Romance Writers of America. She was RWA's 2001 Bylaws Chairperson and was thrilled and honored to receive the 2001 RWA Service Award.

As her five basic soul food groups are romances, movies, photography, travel, and a good cup of tea, into her nonexistent spare time she crams travel with her trusty 35 mm camera in one hand and tea bags in the other. Ports of call have included Alaska, Acadia National Park, the Grand Canyon (both sides), Italy, and Canada. Carol also explored her roots in college when she attended the Vanderbilt-in-England program at Leeds University, Great Britain; she joined the Youth Hosteling Society and hiked all over the countryside of her ancestors.

Carol lives in south Florida with two cats that condescended to adopt her as their owner, and a cranky cockatiel. Readers can contact Carol at P.O. Box 1176, Boynton Beach, FL, 33425-1176, or by email at CJStephenson@aol.com.

March 14, 2007: I was hooked on Shadow Lines by the end of the first page and didn?t put it down until I got to the end. What a great premise! A kick-ass heroine and a hero every bit hot enough to keep her on her toes. It?s the kind of terrific read I?ve come to expect from Stephenson.

September 13, 2006: From Damassine, Switzerland, her sister Yvette, a wealthy widow raising a child by herself, calls European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control epidemiologist Eve St. Giles claiming everyone in the town seems ill including her. When her sibling dies from a virus long dormant, Eve has no time to mourn as she thinks this was a man-made test.----------------------- Eve begins her quest to locate the manufacturer before the deadly disease causes pandemic deaths. She uses her psychic skills and reluctantly accepts the help of her former lover, security expert Nick Petter. As the countdown nears the point of no return, Eve seeks the culprit as much as she searches for ancient healing practices that seem to have contained the lethal virus.---------------------- The fascination in this paranormal thriller comes from the ease in which Carol Stephenson incorporates a historical subplot mostly through the research Eve does that takes her back to a thirteenth century victim of the French Inquisition. The story line is fast-paced from the moment a panicked Yvette calls Eve interrupting her field work on potential Mad Cow Disease and never slows down as the heroine and her beloved teammate Nick race against the clock. This is a one sitting romantic suspense tale.------------------- Harriet Klausner
