August 20, 2008: I finished this book in one sitting. The story just flowed by for me very nicely. The author seemed to capture the time period well and the character's of Orrick and Marguerite were realistic, with all the flaws you would associate with being human. Both strong willed, imperfect, too prideful, at times spoiled and hurtful childish know it all's who are unable and unwilling to submit to each others whim's and acknowledge the truth of their stubborn hearts. Character's who are both to scared to trust, to love and be loved in return. It was not your typical story were every single thing could be made right. But I understood it and some of reasons why certain aspects of the story could not be made to work out. As in real life all the sin's of the past cannot be corrected and made right for reasons that are beyond our control no matter how much we would want it too. But the character's at least managed to pull it together for themselves and finally accept and embrace whatever happiness there is to be had in each other. All in all it was not your typical fairytale romance but a very enjoyable read.
