    Synopsis

    Praise for Sherrilyn Kenyon:

"This book is epic."—The Post and Courier on Acheron

"Kenyon's writing is brisk, ironic and relentlessly imaginative."—Boston Globe

    "[An] engaging read."—Entertainment Weekly

"This series puts a contemporary spin on classical mythology."—Publisher's Weekly

    Publishers Weekly

With its frenetic, Matrix-style fight scenes and feral, leather-clad heroes, this book makes it easy to see why Kenyon's fantasy world has caught on so quickly and even inspired some readers to role-play on her Web site. Like the vampire-battling immortals of Kenyon's previous Dark-Hunter tales (Dance with the Devil, etc.), Wulf Tryggvason is sexy, dangerous and well over six feet tall. He also has a chip on his shoulder because no one, except his blood relatives and fellow Dark-Hunters, can remember him after he leaves a room due to an ancient curse. Then he meets 26-year-old Cassandra Peters, the one woman who can remember him. Unfortunately, she comes with a "short expiration date." Not only is she destined to die on her 27th birthday, but she holds the fate of the world in her hands. The last of her bloodline, Cassandra must have a child before her birthday or the world will descend into darkness. Even those who buy into this premise will find the tidy denouement hard to swallow, but Kenyon is a master at creating spunky characterizations and cinematic action scenes spiced with wry humor. Though she has a tendency to overwrite, especially when it comes to loves scenes ("She moaned at the rich sensation of having all of his lush power lying over her"), this book is an entertaining thrill ride. September 25, 2009: I loved this book! There wasn't as much sex and a lot more plot! Wulf and Cassandra were great characters. No human remembers Wulf five minutes after meeting him except for Cassandra and that made for some very funny situations. I loved the humor in this book. Chris, Wulf's squire, was an extremely intertaining character and I enjoyed all the interactions with him. I like the way Sherrilyn Kenyon brings in past characters from other books. We get to see Kyrian, Julian, Thalon, Zarek and most of all my favorite, Ash. Anyone looking for a strong, tall, tortured, dark, handsome hero should pick up this series. As I'm trying to read them in order, that's what I've noticed most - the books do tend to follow a certain pattern, most typically that Dark-Hunter meets girl, protects/falls in love with girl, almost loses girl, and gets the girl plus a little something from Acheron to boot. But there are times when predictable is good, and this is one of those times. You can count on a description of the hero that will make your mouth water. You can count on the tortured bit for sure. And you can definitely count on some very hot love scenes, some of which have made me blush! Finally, you can count on falling for the DH hero of each story and find yourself rooting for him to find a happy ending. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and favored this one over the others in the series so far.

I Also Recommend: Night Pleasures (Dark-Hunter Series), Dark Side of the Moon (Dark-Hunter Series), Devil May Cry (Dark-Hunter Series), Upon the Midnight Clear (Dream Hunter Novels Series #2), One Silent Night (Dark-Hunter Series #17).
